The Tatama™ self-renewing air cleaning system uses Metalmark’s patented technology to capture and destroy dangerous contaminants.
We spend up to 90% of our time indoors. With the increasing threats like wildfire smoke and urban pollution forcing people to spend even more time indoors, it’s essential that our indoor air quality is healthy and reliable.
First inspired by multi-functional nanostructures found in nature, Metalmark developed the smart, self-renewing air cleaning system that is hassle-free, cost-effective, and climate-friendly.
The Metalmark air cleaning system is designed to integrate beautifully into the built environment.
Tatama™ constantly monitors the space it’s serving, reporting on a wide range of data points and their trends over

Note that no air purifier can fully prevent the transmission of airborne organisms or diseases and cannot substitute the use of PPE. Follow the directions of the CDC and other government agencies.
Pros: HEPA air filters are the “gold “gold standard” for particle removal. They capture PM2.5 and PM1.0 particles, viruses, and bacteria. Plus, they don’t produce ozone or ions.
Cons: Standalone HEPA air purifiers have notoriously high operating costs and demanding maintenance routines. As they become clogged with unhealthy matter, they require more and more energy to clean the air. Typically, HEPA filters must be replaced every 6 months or more frequently, which is inconvenient, costly, and produces a significant amount of landfill waste.
Metalmark’s Tatama air cleaning system have 10x the filter life and lower energy use than traditional HEPA purifiers, reducing costs associated with maintenance, replacement filters and solid waste.
Pros: HEPA + UV air purifiers combine the high-particle filtration efficiency of HEPA filters with the ability to destroy viruses and bacteria.
Cons: UV degrades HEPA filters, resulting in even higher maintenance than traditional HEPA air purifiers.
Metalmark’s Tatama’s self-cleaning technology breaks down trapped particles and destroys pollutants on the filter, extending filter life and reducing maintenance needs. In the process, VOCs are also decomposed.
Pros: Many facilities have upgraded their HVACs with MERV-13 filters. This is the simplest and lowest cost path toward indoor air quality improvement.
Cons: MERV-13 filters collect about a fraction of 0.3 micron particles. Recent research shows that their filtration efficiency of wildfire smoke particles is far lower than their ratings suggest.
HVAC-based IAQ solutions rely on outdoor air ventilation as the source of clean air. The increasing presence of wildfire smoke means that clean outdoor air is becoming less reliable. Ventilation energy is also a major driver of HVAC energy use, comprising about 40% of building energy consumption and carbon footprints.
HVAC systems are engineered to target temperature and humidity comfort. Their designs are incompatible with indoor air quality in many ways and do not provide any insight into IAQ conditions or improvements.
Tatama’s smart, distributed, and localized air cleaning approach balances air quality and energy use, reducing HVAC ventilation dependence. The system’s flow regime is optimized for air cleaning and is the only air cleaner to be third-party lab tested using the most advanced tracer aerosol techniques.
Tatama filters capture 99.97+% of dangerous particles and last up to 10x as long as conventional HEPA filters, reducing costs associated with maintenance, replacement filters, and solid waste.
The Tatama Air Cleaning System also provides 24/7 real-time IAQ data monitoring and app-based displays and alerts.
Pros: Bipolar ionization is comparatively low-maintenance, with no filter replacements.
Cons: Efficacy claims are still being examined by third-parties. A study by Boeing found that there was no evidence of air quality improvement using the technology. Additionally, these systems generate ozone and are known to create other harmful byproducts such as VOCs.
Metalmark’s self-renewing air cleaning technology has been tested and validated by the U.S. EPA.
This award-winning system is proven to remove harmful airborne particulates, wildfire smoke, and pathogens. The self-cleaning technology destroys pollutants on the filter, creating no harmful byproduct emissions and low waste.
